His two classics, Man, the State and War, and, Theory of International Politics, even as a Marxist, had a great impact on my thinking. Professor Waltz's book, "Theory of International Politics" first published in 1979 served to advance our understanding of the once "bipolar" world - a world with two dominant powers - the United States and the Soviet Union. In “Theory of International Politics,” Kenneth Waltz begins by discussing how to construct a good theory and providing definitions of some of the component parts.
